Chemotherapy induced hair loss.
How can I deal with Cancer and Hair Loss due to my Cancer?
Your hair may fall out slowly, entirely, or maybe even in patch-like sections. Your hair may become noticeably thinner, it may become duller or dryer, there are many Cancer Hair Loss variations.
Hair loss due to Cancer is related to the type of Chemotherapy treatments one receives and is usually temporary.
Chemotherapy Hair Loss is not just on your scalp but may cause hair loss all over your body as well. Hair Loss due to Chemo can affect us in many ways. Eyelash, eyebrow, armpit, pubic and other body hair also falls out.
Chemotherapy drugs are more likely than others to cause Chemotherapy Hair Loss, and different doses can cause anything from a minor hair thinning to even complete baldness.
Approximately 65% of people undergoing chemotherapy will experience chemotherapy-induced hair loss, which is usually temporary and reversible when therapy ends. The use of molecularly targeted agents in cancer treatment has also been associated with hair loss rates as high as 60%.
Will my hair grow back after Chemotherapy?
Hair Loss occurs because chemotherapy targets all rapidly dividing cells—healthy cells as well as cancer cells. Hair follicles, the structures in the skin filled with tiny blood vessels that make hair, are some of the fastest-growing cells in the body.
Hair usually begins falling out two to four weeks after you first start your treatment. It could fall out very quickly in clumps or gradually. You'll likely notice accumulations of loose hair on your pillow, in your hairbrush or comb, or in your sink or shower drain.
So will my hair ever go back to normal after chemo?
For most folks, your hair will start to return to normal about 12 months after Chemotherapy Treatment is complete. Almost everyone who has chemotherapy-related hair loss sees hair regrowth within’ 5 years or so.
We recommend you speak with your doctor if you're concerned about Post-Chemo Hair Loss or any other side effects of your treatment.
